NEEDED: 3-4 CIO participants
As you may be aware, the Digital Research Alliance of Canada (the Alliance) has funded a project to develop a national persistent identifier (PID) strategy for Canada. The project is overseen by the Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN) and the Alliance on behalf of the Canadian PID Advisory Committee (CPIDAC), and builds on work undertaken last year to explore community needs and ambitions for investment in PIDs: which are and remain a critical dependency for a modern digital research system. This phase of the project is being delivered by consultants from the MoreBrains Cooperative, who also conducted last year’s research.
We would like to invite you to participate in a workshop to explore the current status of information and infrastructure interoperability between funders and institutions (as well as across those two groups). Our goals for this virtual session will be to identify pain points, good practice, opportunities for improvement, and barriers to change, with a focus on areas where PIDs could, or should, be introduced or used more effectively. We will explore a range of information exchange scenarios including: applying for a grant, reporting on research activities, exchanging information between collaborators, and sharing and re-using information between funders.
Our goal is to develop actionable insights by identifying processes that could quickly be fixed, or where improvements could be most impactful in the longer term. These will be taken forward to our next stage, in which we will create detailed analyses of these processes and specify the steps to be taken to enhance interoperation and efficiency.
Our colleagues at MoreBrains, will be in touch with practical information about the workshop. In the meantime, I hope that you are able to participate, as your insights will be very valuable to this crucial project as we move towards a national consensus on priorities for a new national PID strategy for Canada. Please let us know if others at your institution would be interested in participating.
